YANKEE’S 2 ND ANNUAL TRACKING TEST 2000
The cold wet weather could not dampen the spirit and desire of our beloved breed. Four Golden Retrievers and handlers would not be denied. They came to track and boy did they track!
YGRC held it’s 2nd annual tracking test on April 23rd, Easter Sunday, at High Ridge Wildlife Management Area, Gardner, MA. Five dogs entered the test, but one withdrew when he was accepted into a TDX test elsewhere, leaving four dogs to run. Tracks were plotted the day before by our dedicated judges, Miles Garrod and Lily Mummert and tracklayers. Sunday morning the tracklayers walked their respective tracks picking up the flags laid the day before and depositing the sought after article, "the precious glove", at the end of their track.
After the lottery drawing for track numbers was completed, tracks were ready to run. The tracks had been aged appropriately and dogs and handlers could get down to business. Each dog put their nose to the ground and in their own style led their handler on the track to the prized article, the glove.
Yankee is proud to announce that we had a 100% pass rate! We can now boast of 4 new TD dogs in our club. Heartfelt congratulations to the following dogs and handlers who did an OUTSTANDING job:
Track # 1 Mirasol’s Femme Fatale handled by Ray Demarais
Track # 2 Shawnfield’s Here We Go Again JH, NA, NAJ, handled by Marcia Peirce
Track # 3 Tricon Starshines Xmas Wish CGC handled by Myrna Libby
Track # 4 Lady Shasta of Shankhassick CDX handled by Ray Demarais
Tracking is a marvelous sport to enjoy with your dog, at any age. Ray Demarais handled our youngest participant; Mirasol’s Femme Fatale age 16 months and our senior participant, Lady Shasta of Shankhassick age 10 ½ years old. In tracking you will experience a new prospective with your dog where the dog has a natural ability from birth, far superior to man’s. You must learn to "read" your dog, trust in his ability and have faith to follow him. The rewards of that communication and companionship are endless! So think about giving tracking a try. YGRC will be holding a two day seminar for beginner tracking dogs and handlers on Oct. 21st and 22nd.
Again a BIG YGRC Congratulations to the four new TD dogs and handlers!! We’re proud of you!
